5 Beauty Trends for Spring 2021

Hello Spring!

Though we are encouraged to look after our hair and skin regularly, the long winter months aren't the most motivational period for self care, especially in this pandemic. We have been on the hunt for the top Spring skincare trends for all things beauty, to give you some new ideas to try this year.

1. Dewy Skin

In a global health pandemic, and with vaccinations only just starting to roll out, wellness has never been such a priority. The most popular look this spring is bare faces, dewy skin, lightweight make-up and that all-important glow. It sounds like a good go-to look right?

It is essential to moisturise your face morning and night after cleansing, to achieve this dewy skin look. Our Collagen & Retinol Cream is perfect for bringing a surge of hydration to your skin. When applied at night, the cream locks in moisture to help promote repair, for fresh, healthy skin in the morning.

2. Beauty from Within

It’s all about beauty from within this Spring, as it’s essential to look after your immune system now more than ever! Make sure you are fuelling your body with essential vitamins and minerals and make sure you’re drinking plenty of water. Mayo Clinic recommends 2.7 litres of fluid daily for women and 3.7 litres of fluid daily for men.

3. 'Slugging' for Your Skin?

“Slugging is a trend that centres around putting a thick layer of Vaseline or petroleum jelly on your face as the final step in your skincare routine,” explains Maree Kinder, founder of Beauty & Seoul. “The idea behind it is to act as a seal or barrier to prevent moisture loss from skin.” This trend was actually made popular a few years ago, but has been brought to light in the recent months, thanks to TikTok.

Although we cannot vouch if this trend is a myth of not...why not try it out whilst we are in lockdown? Here’s our advice for your skincare routine to incorporate this ‘slugging’ trend:

Start with our Gentle Cleanser and wash away daily build-up. Follow with our Replenish Toner to ensure the skin is fully clean. Our Replenishment Toner also soothes any of your skin's redness or irritation, contributing to a more even complexion, a vital step towards achieving that ‘dewy skin’ we mentioned earlier.

Next, apply our Collagen & Retinol Cream to bring hydration back to the skin. After letting the cream sink in, apply a thick layer of Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly to your skin.

Though the Collagen & Retinol Cream provides plenty of moisture to the skin, using this 'slugging' process is believed to lock in all the moisturiser's benefits. Fans of 'the process say it leaves skin hydrated, plump and glowing. The trend emerged after, Kinder says, a Korean actress claimed slugging was her secret to “chok chok” skin (that oh so popular dewy finish).

4. Cold Showers

Studies show that cold showers give your skin and hair a healthy glow. Though the idea of a cold shower is not the most appealing, Dr. Jacqueline Schaffer, MD, says that cold water tightens and constricts the blood flow which gives your skin a healthier glow.

Switching to cold water instead of hot water in your shower doesn’t dry out the sebum layer, a naturally lubricated barrier that provides protection for your skin and hair. Why not try a cold shower with our Nourish & Shine Shampoo and Hydrate & Smooth Conditioner, for extra smooth results.

5. Skin Icing

This is a huge trend on TikTok, which involves rolling ice or freezer-cooled facial tools such as our Gua Sha Stone or Jade Roller over the face.

The idea behind skin icing, is that the cold temperature causes blood vessels to constrict. This reduces redness, pain and swelling, and improves the appearance of spots. "Blood vessel constriction also means a reduction in the amount of fluid, which is particularly useful in under-eye puffiness," adds Dr Adegoke. "The gentle massaging action helps to increase lymphatic drainage, further removing excess fluid that causes puffiness. Skin icing is also thought to reduce excess oil production and increase absorption of skincare products."

Why not give this a try? Start with putting your Pro Co Gua Sha Stone or Jade Roller in your freezer for roughly one hour or so. When ready to start your skin icing treatment, you skincare tool should be the perfect temperature to maximise the cooling sensation.

Lather your skin in your favourite skincare product to avoid any pulling on the skin from the facial tools you may be using. We recommend our Collagen & Retinol Cream as it is full of skin hydrating ingredients, and has a great texture to help the tools glide over your face. This treatment is best practised in the morning, to help wake up the skin and reduce skin puffiness.
